First Year Law Students' Examination

To earn a Juris Doctorate Degree, the California State Bar regulates licensing through the First-Year Law Students' Examination. All students at the California School of Law will be required to take and pass the First-Year Law Students' Examination to complete Law School. Students must pass this examination within three administrations of first becoming eligible to take the exam in order to receive credit for law study accomplished up to the time of passage. If they pass the examination on their fourth or more attempts, they will receive credit for only one year of law study.

The educational requirements to become a licensed attorney in California can be found in Rule VII of the California State Bar Rules for Admission to practice in California.
