First Year Law Students' Examination Requirement


The California State Bar requires that to earn a Juris Doctorate Degree, students must pass the First-Year Law Students' Examination given after completion of the first year of law school. In order to continue at the California School of Law, all students are required to take and pass the First-Year Law Students' Examination.

Students must pass the FYLSE within three administrations of first becoming eligible to take the exam. Students who pass the examination on their fourth or later attempts will receive credit for only one year of law study.
